President's Letter
Monday - May 10, 2010
2010 marks the 7th year of operations for KAC-Chicago, and my
8th and final year as President. It is definitely time for me
to transition to more of a supporting role while the more ambitious
among the KACC Board of Directors step into the limelight. The
amazing opportunities and experience serving as President for
eight years has certainly contributed to my personal and professional
growth, and now it is time to pass this privilege along. Not to
worry, I’m not going anywhere … as my husband John
wisely observed when we first got involved: this is a life-long
commitment.
We continue to move forward and build Chicago’s Korean
American community with a new slogan: “Engage -
Serve - Lead” … as in we ENGAGE
the 152 (our hip way of saying 1.5 and 2nd generation) / young
professional generation, SERVE Chicago’s
Korean American community, and develop LEADers.
We kicked off our year with our beloved and familiar KACC
Get Connected! or more commonly known as Happy Hour on
April 8th at the Jefferson Tap (thanks again to Eugene for putting
together a great and well-attended event!) Our future plans includes:
1. May 22, 2010 @ 2-5 p.m. (Kent Law School)
– KACC Speaker Series featuring Charles Kim,
a nationally renowned community activist/organizer and founding
member of the Korean American Coalition (KAC).
2. June 25-27, 2010 – KAC National
Convention in Los Angeles, CA
3. September 2010 – GenKA 2010
We will also continue to work as part of United Korean American
Network (UKAN), a network of KA young professional organizations
in metropolitan Chicago, along with our counterparts in KABA,
KACS, KAtCH and KSEA.
For more information on any of the aforementioned events/initiatives
or to join us at our monthly KACC Board Meeting, send us an e-mail
at kacchicago@gmail.com.
