President's Letter

Spring hopes eternal in Chicago...

If you live in Chicago like we do, you’re probably wondering the same thing as us: “When is it going to get warmer?!!!”

The bad news is nobody knows. And it may still snow again.

The good news is it will eventually arrive. That is, spring for a day or two and then blistering summer weather.

In any case, I wanted to let you know that we are now in our sixth year of operations and regardless of the weather, economy and all other such general life conditions, we continue to push ahead and build Chicago’s Korean American community with a new slogan: “Engage - Serve - Lead” … as in we engage the 152 (our hip way of saying 1.5 and 2nd generation) / young professional generation, serve Chicago’s Korean American community, and develop leaders.

If you have been wondering what we’ve been up to since the start of the new year, so far we have:

1) Attended the Jan 31/09 KAC National Planning Session in Las Vegas, NV.
2) Attended the bi-monthly Feb 13/09 United Korean American Network (UKAN) Meeting, along with our counterparts in KABA, KACS, KAtCH and KSEA.
3) Hosted a KACC Happy Hour on March 5/09 at Goose Island (in Chicago, IL).
4) Participated in the March 13/09 Chicago fundraiser for Boston mayoral candidate Sam Yoon.

For the rest of Year 2009, we will be working on/participating in/supporting:

1) KACC Survival Korean – A cohort-driven Korean language and cultural education program starting in May 2009
2) UKAN – A network of KA young professional organizations in metropolitan Chicago; meetings scheduled for April, June, August, October and November 2009.
3) Asian American Institute’s 2009 Milestone Awards Benefit, scheduled for April 30/09
4) Chicago fundraiser for Mark Keam, Candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates, scheduled for May 7/09
5) Chicago fundraiser for Sam Yoon, scheduled for June 17/09
6) KAC National Convention in Los Angeles, CA (scheduled for September 2009)
7) KACC Get Connected! – Bringing you more Happy Hours and other social/professional networking opportunities

For more information on any of the aforementioned events/initiatives or to join us at our monthly KACC Board Meeting (1st Thursday of every month), send us an e-mail at kacchicago@gmail.com.

Happy Spring!
